I think Trouba would have been a good add and it's pretty obvious they could have bettered the deal the Rangers gave, but perhaps it's just not seen as a priority with all the Young D already on the roster that appear ready for prime time. Still could be a very big week for the Flyers in term of making some changes for the upcoming year. |

Bill,
Just say they move on from hayes with no deal. Could you see Anders Lee and Kadri as fall back options?
I don't get the sense Duchene is a target for them. |

If Winnipeg wanted to get a RHD in return for Trouba, our only options would be Niskanen and Myers. I don't think they'd be interested in Niskanen for cap reasons, and I would give them Myers +11. If Hagg (who had similar production to Pionk and is only 1 year older) +11 could get it done, I would have done that. |

before the trade last week....would Gudas and #11 got it done? we'll never know I guess. I to would have done Hagg + #11....but as Bill pointed out, the deal wouldn't make sense if it was only for one season.

I am fine with defense as is for right now. I want to get the 2C taken care of and add a winger. Seems like all of the Cali teams will be making moves. Maybe the Flyers could get a winger or center out of those teams.

no shot i give them myers and the 11 for Trouba, thats basically double the haul new york gave up. Myers is a young, controllable, RHD who has all of 22 games at the NHL level. Trouba, as Bill mentioned, is not an end all be all pick, that is a Norris level calibre defenseman. Why give up a young asset and the 11OA for a guy who is a good defender, but not a game changer? |

100%
Priorities should be to sign Hayes/FA 2C (Pavelski, Duchene, Lee)
And also add a top 9 winger who can play up and down the lineup. My wishlist starts with Panarin as does everyone elses, although the money isn't there. 2nd on the list for me is Zucc |

Without the ability to negotiate prior to the deal, it is hard to know if Trouba has interest in an extension. #11 and Hagg or Ghost would be too much to chance. |

If people didn't want to give up Gostisbehere why would Myers be ok? I think Myers will be a top 3 defender for this team and has a way higher all around upside then Gostisbehere |

I m not sure how much more value Gudas has. A one year rental with below average skating and multi time suspended. I thought the Flyers were offered 2 2nds at the trade deadline before he signed his last contract. My guess is Chevy was looking for a dman with a perceived higher ceiling that he could sign on a multi yr deal with a reasonable cap hit. I would not have moved Myers in a package to get Trouba. |

I agree about Myers, think his upside is way higher. I didnt say anything about giving up Ghost or Myers, I want to keep them both. |

I don't think they will add on defense anymore. I think the target will be upfront. If they move on from Hayes then maybe Lee or Kadri are plan B. |

Honestly, if it was Hagg (who slots in as a 5/6) and 11th OA, I'd probably do it for Trouba and try to hammer out an extension. But yeah, no way I'd include Myers. |

I agree. I believe Niskanen is it for the blue line. I just hope they sign Provy and Sanheim long term. No bridge deals. |

Absolutely, Hagg and 11th OA, i would do it. We'd also have to be sure he would be open to an extension here, can't give up the 11th OA with a risk he doesn't sign. |

ever since Trouba's holdout a couple years back I've wanted nothing to do with him
I'm glad we didn't get him, and I'm glad we won't have to get into contract negotiations with him as an RFA (or later as a UFA) |

Will you have the same feeling if Provorov exercises his leverage that way? |

Very disappointed about missing out on Trouba. I think he would've been a perfect add for this off season. The fact he went to the Rangers is just salt in the wound. |

NHL Game day on NHl network talking about the Rangers and that a rebuild is way ahead of schedule and no team should take 5 years to rebuild. We assume that cost Hex his job, the rebuild taking to long.
who knows it could be the Rangers will still not be a playoff team. Like the Flyers, they got lucky in the lottery and got the #2 pick, better than the Flyers it appears to be a much better draft. Luck is luck but time will tell. Could Patrick be better than Kaapo? Right now he is because he is in the NHL, projections have Kaapo as game changer, we will see.
The Rangers did blow it up bigger than the Flyer, they sent everyone packing and collected picks. That allowed them to trade for Truba and get Kaapo.
looking back is easy, maybe when Hex traded Schen he should have traded Simmonds also. Easy to say now. What is true is that the young talent coming in to the NHL is amazing |

Rangers add Trouba and Fox to thier D corp. If Fox is as good as the hype then they did very well. Add in the #2 pick; plus what they have in house and future picks they acquired things look bright for the rangers. |

If I was forced to spend the bulk of my winter in Winnipeg, I'd be holding out for more money, too. |

The Rangers have done a good job thus far. However, the moves need to translate to success on the ice. Draft picks take time to become NHL level players.
Who do they have at center? Who do they have on defense? Lundquist will be done in a season or two. I am willing to bet they don't win a playoff series in the next three years.

My feeling is that if they were rebuilding I would have really seen what voracek could have gotten. If the game for Hextall was patience then he should have been moved. That's why i kind of felt his plan was a little half assed. Either go all in or don't.
He probably would have been right there with E. Kane as top available wingers coming off an 81 point season.
Corburn that year got a 1st and Gudas. Kane was moved in a deal, along with Bogosian, and that brought back a 1st, prospect(Lemiux), Tyler myers and Stafford. Winniep selected Kyle Connor.
Long story short, maybe he should have done a little more in the blowup stage then he did.
